SoloKeys

SoloKeys is the original open hardware FIDO2 project. The Solo 2 line, currently sold from solokeys.com, is licensed under the CERN Open Hardware Licence Strongly Reciprocal and runs the open source Trussed firmware framework. Active maintenance is shared with Nitrokey, which built the Nitrokey 3 on the same firmware base.

SoloKeys’ relevance is partly that the hardware is genuinely open, with schematics and firmware on GitHub, and partly that the Solo 2+ NFC is one of a small number of inexpensive NFC capable open hardware keys. Buying a Solo means trusting an open source project rather than a commercial vendor’s secure element story, which is a different tradeoff than buying a Yubico or Feitian.
